Mirai is a self-propagating botnet worm consisting of compromised routers, IP cameras and IoT devices.
The Mirai botnet became possible thanks to the use by many manufacturers of telecommunications equipment of the same pre-installed logins and passwords for accessing the device administrator account.
The Mirai source code is publicly available, which facilitates its use by a wide range of representatives of the cybercriminal environment. The botnet is used to carry out DDoS attacks. The most famous is the attack on the American DNS provider «Dyn»".
It was first discovered in 2016.
